Infection Control and Dettol

This article will explain how Infection prevention and control can be achieved through effective cleaning, disinfecting, sanitizing, and hand hygiene using Dettol.

Knowing the proper infection prevention and control guidelines and processes helps fight against the spread of germs, bacteria, and diseases.

Speaking of infection control particularly, it utilizes various risk management techniques like hand washing, teaching children about hygiene, personal hygiene, etc., to either stop or reduce the risk of infection transmission.

Standard precautions are a set of practices required to achieve the most basic level of infection control. While essential, they are the first line of defense against various infections and diseases.

Although these practices apply to every individual, they are very important for children, as they require extra protection these days

So what are these standard precautions for infection control, and how does Dettol play a role in it? Let’s explore:

Hand hygiene

According to the World Health Organization, attention to hand hygiene is one of the essential infection control measures to prevent or reduce the risk of infection spread.

Hand hygiene includes cleaning and washing your hands with an antibacterial soap or liquid hand wash for at least 20 seconds. Moreover, if that is not possible, disinfect your hands with a hand sanitizer

Medical professionals recommend various instances in which hand hygiene should be implemented:

  • Before and after eating or preparing food items.

  • Before and after coming into contact with a patient.

  • Immediately after using the toilet.

  • After coming back from public spaces.

  • After touching surfaces or objects used by multiple people.

  • After sneezing or coughing as part of basic respiratory hygiene.

Cleaning, sterilizing, and disinfecting

Most of us regularly clean our environment, but there’s a clear difference between cleaning and disinfecting. Without any of these, you won’t be able to reduce the infection spread risk.

Clean, sterilize and disinfect all the familiar places and objects frequently touched or used by more than one person. Such places and objects include common areas, living rooms, waiting areas, door knobs, handles, remote controls, electronic devices, etc.

The first step should always be to clean the dirt before disinfection or sterilization.

First, use a multi-surface cleaner for the bathroom, kitchen, living room, and glass surfaces. Afterward, use the antiseptic liquid that promises to kill 99% of germs through sterilization and disinfection.

Never underestimate the importance of cleaning frequency of the house, and make sure to clean all the areas in your home to protect yourself and your children from various diseases like cold, flu, Covid-19, etc.

Respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette

Airborne and droplet infection transmission are responsible for various respiratory diseases. Hence, it’s imperative to adopt basic level respiratory hygiene and cough etiquettes, including:

  • Cover your nose or mouth with a tissue or the crevice of your elbow while coughing or sneezing to contain respiratory secretion droplets.

  • Wash your hands immediately after contacting respiratory secretions or any contaminated object.

  • Adopt social distancing or avoid individuals displaying various signs and symptoms of respiratory diseases.

  • In the unavoidable event of coming into contact with someone sick, always wear a surgical mask.
