DAYCARE IN SUMMER: TIPS FOR ENSURING A RICH & FUN EXPERIENCE
Summer comes along with vacation days. But luckily, there are several daycare centres available if you need your child to be looked after. So whether you need to run an urgent errand or even enjoy some well-deserved “me time”, rest assured, there will be someone you can trust to watch over your child.
Dettol has prepared some vital tips to guarantee both you and your child a quiet and fun experience at daycare.
Clothing: Make sure your little one is properly dressed – remember the best choice is layering. The weather could start off being a bit chilly in the morning, then warms up by midday, only to cool back down again in the afternoon when you pass by to collect your child. You should also pack one or two extra changes of clothes during summer, which will help your child freshen up if they’ve been playing and feel a little hot and sweaty.
Books: Assist your child in becoming familiar with the sights and shapes that they’ll encounter at daycare. There are plenty of illustrated books available to introduce them to the concept of daycare, which will help reduce their anxiety and get them prepared.
Pictures: Considering that every child should have their own main supervisor assigned, you could ask for the person’s name and picture beforehand and show it to your little one. Discuss the new person they’ll be meeting who is very excited to be taking care of them. This will make them more comfortable around the daycare personnel when they eventually meet.
Introductory Visit: A few days before they start daycare, take your child there for an introductory visit and get them familiar with the new scents, sights and faces. You could even show them the toy section to build up a little excitement.
Participation: To have them better prepared for daycare, ask your child to help you in packing for the outing. Let them choose their favourite toy to take along or pick out their own outfit.
Labels: Label everything: their clothes, toys, and any utensils or drink flasks. This is not just intended for maintaining their belongings, so others don’t take them by mistake, but also to protect them from germs and diseases by ensuring their supervisor can identify them easily.
Hygiene Kit: This is crucial as children of a young age are more prone to catching viruses from each other at daycare centres. Make sure you pack all cleaning items your child might require and notify their supervisor of what you’ve placed there. Dettol antibacterial hand sanitisers and wipes* are useful in avoiding the spread of germs when your child is at daycare. At the supervision of an adult, your child can be taught from a young age the healthy habit of sterilizing with antibacterial hand sanitisers and wipes to always ensure protection from germs.
Quiet Farewell: Do everything slowly. First of all, go over to the management room for a cup of tea, and spend 10 minutes outside the room listening to your child. Once they’ve settled in, it’s time for you to say goodbye. Head over to the play area and let them know you’re leaving, but will be back by the end of the day to pick them up.
Tell them how lucky they are to be able to stay there and play. Then, kiss them and hug them, and say goodbye to their supervisor, so your child understands that you trust them, before finally making your exit.
